PREFACE
Dietitians/nutritionists have the most important role in determining the nutrition sta-
tus of patients and developing medical nutrition therapy. Inadequate and unbalanced
nutrition causes an increase in the incidence of non-communicable diseases along
with the life span. In order to prevent these disease risks and the negative effects they
cause, lifestyle changes such as regulating eating habits, increasing physical activity
and preventing smoking and alcohol use are important. In this book, medical nutri-
tion therapy is discussed in full detail in the prevention and treatment of these dis-
eases. The section titles of this book are; Endocrine System and Endocrine Disruptors,
Medical Nutrition Therapy in Thyroid and Adrenal Gland Diseases, Medical Nutrition
Therapy in Obesity, Medical Nutrition Therapy in Eating Behavior Disorders, Diabetes
Mellitus and Medical Nutrition Therapy, Medical Nutrition Therapy in Cardiovascular
Diseases, Medical Nutrition Therapy in Metabolic Syndrome, Medical Nutrition Thera-
py in Gastrointestinal System Diseases, Medical Nutrition Therapy in Cancer and Medi-
cal Nutrition Therapy in Transplantations.
As a continuation of this book, our book titled “Clinical Nutrition in Adults II” has
also been published. We hope that this book, which contains up-to-date information,
will be a good resource for Nutrition and Dietetics students, dietitians and health pro-
fessionals, especially those qualified in this field.
